The story of BASICS International did not begin in one place. Its foundation was shaped by Patricia Wilkins’ community service and work with young people in New York, then expanded after she relocated to Ghana in 2000.
In 2001, BASICS began providing educational sponsorships in Chorkor, helping children overcome the financial and social barriers that prevented them from remaining in school.
Over the past 25 years, that work has grown into an integrated community-development organisation advancing education, youth leadership, digital skills, workforce development, health, wellness and economic empowerment in the United States and Ghana.
Today, BASICS continues to break cycles, build futures and create opportunities for children, young people and families.
