VOLUNTEERING AT BASICS

Volunteering at BASICS International has been described as a life-changing experience, providing you with a chance to make a truly positive impact on the lives of the children in Chorkor, as well as discover and experience a community bursting with life and culture.

We take on volunteers for short and long term placements. We welcome those who are seeking a way to give back, and those seeking connection with other fellow humans. VOLUNTEER IN GHANA

Most of our volunteers visit us in Ghana and volunteer in the field. Volunteering in Ghana will find you at our Intervention Centre aka, Nana’s House, where you’ll be working face-to-face with the children everyday.

You do not need a teaching degree to volunteer with us; all you need is enthusiasm, determination, and mosquito spray! The children who attend Nana’s House are sponsored to go to local schools through our Back2School program. After school, they attend Nana’s House to receive in tutoring, mentorship and participate in extra curricular activities.

Volunteer as a facilitator

As a Facilitator at Nana’s House, you will tutor students with the school work, and expand on the national curriculum through story telling. You will facilitate their creative learning, such as art, dance and sport. You will co-ordinate meal time, computer time and maybe even run a Harambe! Facilitators are leaders; mentors to the children. The children at BASICS all face their own personal challenges, so it is our job to inspire and encourage them to work hard and shoot for the stars!

Volunteers who bring a skill set to BASICS are welcome to create their own program. We’ve had volunteers make short films, build urban gardens, teach meditation, yoga, sewing, organise fundraising events and concerts. Whats your passion? How can you make this experience even more meaningful for the children, BASICS, and yourself?

Volunteer in management

Kids not your thing? No problem. Help us run our charity! Do you have any of these skill? Administration, planning, fundraising, business development, marketing, HR, IT, accounting, the list goes on. Whats your passion? How can you make an impact?

Volunteer from home

Not ready to travel to Ghana? Volunteer in your hometown. You might be like many who are not quite ready to take the journey to Africa. BASICS International offers opportunities right in your hometown to be involved. BASICS can use any skill ( accounting, administrative, fundraising, grant writing, consultants, lesson planning, serving on board, etc), all you have to do is say ” I want to help”.

Are you in NY? We have several opportunities for volunteers ( working in local schools, administrative work, fundraising).
